Thomas Galbraith

MFT Clinical Practicum

I have completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from BYU-Idaho and I am nearing the completion of a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. I am very excited to be completing my clinical practicum at MNCCC.

I work with couples, individuals, parents, families and teens to help them work through concerns such as depression, anxiety, attachment loss, divorce, co-parenting issues, relationship struggles and many other life challenges. I am passionate about helping couples and adults dealing with conflicts, healing emotional wounds, betrayals, hopelessness, and navigating parenting challenges.

I have completed Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training (Level 1 and Level 2), Through research-based interventions and exercises, Gottman Method helps couples break through barriers to achieve greater understanding, connection and intimacy in their relationships. Gottman Method Couples Therapy was developed out of John and Julie Gottman's extensive research to help couples: • Increase respect, affection, and closeness • Break through and resolve conflict when they feel stuck • Generate greater understanding between partners • Keep conflict discussions calm.  Research shows that to make a relationship last, couples must become better friends, learn to manage conflict, and create ways to support each other’s hopes for the future.

I am also a Certified Prepare and Enrich Facilitator for pre-marital counseling, and have been trained in Mental Health First Aid. Mental Health First Aid is a evidence-based training to aid individuals to identify, understand, and respond to a range of mental illnesses and substance use issues. As a licensed foster parent, I have completed trainings on parenting children with strong attachment needs and cross-cultural differences.

I take an integrated approach drawing from theoretical frameworks such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, Attachment Theory, Strategic Family Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Throughout my clinical practicum I will be under the supervision of Aaron Kolstad, MA LMFT. I will have the benefit of receiving ongoing consultation and Aaron’s expertise and guidance.

Bringing your lives and your relationship to therapy is difficult and noble. I bring a calm presence with compassion, empathy, and a judgement-free attitude to provide a sense of safety and environment for growth and positive changes.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family, including my German Shepherd, reading, fishing, spending time in nature, and volunteering with youth. I look forward to working with you.

I see clients at our Edina and Maple Grove office.
