Heather Brown
MS, LAMFT
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from UW-Eau Claire. After college, I worked in a leadership role at several retail companies. One of the things I enjoyed most about the leadership role was helping teams work through their differences and come together on a shared vision. I have always had an interest in mental health, and after several years in retail, I decided it was time for a new career. I
went back to school and got my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University.
I enjoy working with individuals and couples who have experienced complex trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, marriage conflict, infidelity, and adjusting to parenthood.
I have taken a special interest in working with individuals, couples and families who have been impacted by chronic illness. Chronic illnesses like cancer, or other unexpected medical diagnosis are traumatic and have a large and lasting impact on the individual and their families. I create a safe space for the individual and their family members to talk about their anxiety and fears surrounding procedures, tests/results, treatments and more. I provide assistance in managing anxiety and depression as well as psychoeducation surrounding the traumatic impact of these events.
I have advanced training in trauma and couple’s therapy. My training include working with complex trauma and PTSD, and I am a Certified Prepare/Enrich Counselor for premarital counseling.
I take a collaborative approach to therapy. I believe that the individual or couple is an expert in their own lives and relationships and my role is to create a safe space to work on the goals together. I little more about me, I am an avid learner. I am always on the lookout for new books, podcasts or documentaries to expand my knowledge and help me see the world through a different perspective.
My family and friends affectionately refer to me as a “Bird Nerd.” I have several memories of watching the birds on my grandparent’s birdfeeder growing up. Now I am sharing the love of birding and the outdoors with my husband and son.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
