Tim Herzog

MA, LAMFT

I am glad that you are looking into using MN Counseling and Couples Center as a place to help with difficult situations you may find yourself in right now. I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, soon to drop the associate label. I was trained in an Adlerian institution following Alfred Adler psychotherapy, who said “Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give situations”. I have been a marriage and family therapist in this current decade. Prior to working here at MNCCC I had been an information technologist for decades. A career change happened when my marriage of twenty years suddenly dissipated, and my situation changed to being a ‘single’ adult again. Being devastated, I determined myself to have a new meaning to be someone who helps those in similar situations to have the best outcome.

More About Tim

I have a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts from Adler Graduate School in Minnetonka, MN. The Master’s degree is in psychology with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy.

I have been trained in multiple psychological therapies that are proven to be helpful for those of you who want to change your reactions to your situations. I have been fortunate to have been involved with the creation of some of the therapies with the authors. With couples, both of you have valid perspectives of your relationship and getting to understand and respect those perspectives is what we will pursue. Each individual and couple are obviously unique and I will seek to apply the best therapy(s) for your optimum outcome. Realizing that you are not your thoughts or emotions can free the clients from much of what ails them.

You may question why you would seek counsel about relationships with a therapist who is divorced from his wife which should disqualify me which is valid. I thought I would be unfit to provide therapy myself. The agony of divorce solidified my resolve to rectify couple’s disconnect in their relationship, that same personal agony motivated the authors of many therapies to create the selfsame solutions. Because many of them went through their own divorces, these researchers also committed their life’s work to help people enjoy and have flourishing relationships.
